Drama Reflection
In drama we just ended our unit on Greek theatre by presenting our short play on Oedipus and the Sphinx.Through this unit we mainly focused on using chorus work and different emotions and using masks. In my group there was one scene where we used chorus work strongly and effectively which was in the oracle scene. In the oracle scene there were three spirits which were me (Monica), Akshansh and Ward and Rania was the Oracle. We all said the same lines and did the same movements to describe our character we all said as a chorus ''Kill your father, marry your mother'' repetitively and moved our hands to the sides slowly in the same time to emphasize the character which was the spirit. We all moved in the same direction circling Oedipus and repeating the line as a chorus.
Personally I think that the most scene where I used my voice to emphasize the character i was playing was the Sphinx scene where i changed the tone of my voice from high to low every now and again to emphasize the emotion and the personality of the character. The part where I most projected my voice and changed the tone of my voice was when I said the riddle to oedipus because I was trying to frighten him.My line was "This is a creature that walks on 4 legs in the morning! 2 legs in the evening! and 3 legs at night! What is this creature?!'' as I spoke my group said it with me so it could sound like it is one person speaking but with different voices.
One scene where I used body language to show my character was in the first scene when I was a tree.As I stood on the block to look tall I moved by entire body side to side and swung my arms side to side and whistled to emphasize the weather and to show how it was very windy and to also emphasize the environment of the setting which was a hillside.
In conclusion we have learnt a lot in this unit and have really improved our drama skills to the better. Another thing I might change next time is to make my movements more exaggerated because exaggerated movement is a very important element of greek theatre.
